This was my old About:
Here's what I plan to do in this blog:
1. Review movies I have JUST SEEN. I plan to enter the review with only an impression, and as I write, gradually figure out what it is I wish to say about this film. Take this style for what it is. To clarify, this will be happening hopefully within the hour following my viewing, or in any case within the same day. No night will pass between film viewing and review. Realize that my viewing of the movie will be affected by my plan to review it. You may decide whether or not this distorts my opinion. Mostly I will write reviews of first-time viewings, but occasionally it will be after a repeated viewing. In these cases, I will state the situation clearly, and the same rules of time passage apply.
2. Periodically give general reflections regarding cinematic ideas, trends, etc. I want not only to review individual entities, but reflect on the whole realm of ideas and media that is film.
I prefer the term "movie" in many situations, sometimes "film". I will use both.
I do not expect any human being to ever read this blog. It is made for my own enjoyment and expression of ideas, although I am not opposed to revealing it to certain peoples in certain secure situations.
Actually, it is made so that I can better grasp what's going on in my own mind. When I write, I get a grip on my own thoughts and can realize patterns and get to know myself better. I think it is extremely important to know oneself, ones mental life. Film is something I love talking about, so this will be an enjoyable way to make sense of myself. I love explaining things to people, so I will write as if I am talking to somebody, although I am not. My mind works in conversation, in explanation, in education. I think in personal explanation so often, it is one of my best ways of thinking and figuring out the world.
I am an unreliable source. My style of writing and reviewing and thinking will change over the course of this blog. Everything will be imperfect. That's why this blog will serve as a study on myself... People like Nietzsche and Foucault believe that when we describe the world, we are actually saying more about ourselves than we are about the world. When I review movies, I will be expressing my inner self more than writing objective descriptions of movies. I'll say it again, nothing here is objective. This is obvious, as 'everyone has opinions', but it is significant to note. It is important to note the nature and mission of this blog, including that I am an imperfect source, but that this is not a problem if my main mission is to make sense of myself. Invoking Rousseau here, if my goal were to write perfect reviews of movies, I would not be making progress. But since my goal is to develop my movie-reviewing self and my self in general, I am making progress. This is a good thing.
Now, I suppose I just write about movies when I feel like it. I mean, I still write about every movie I see, and still do it within a day of watching, but that's only because I enjoy it. And my mission now is to only write within the limits of my enjoyment. This was supposed to be fun, and I will not continue with it if it's not fun... so I am speaking from Lonning in saying that I will now generally not try to write a full review of a movie, but rather just write what I want to write, so as to keep writing and enjoy myself.
